Publications of the Dictionary of Old English: Claudio Cataldi, ed. – The Bodley Glossaries: The Glossaries in Oxford, Bodleian Library, MS Bodley 730

posted on March 20, 2023

Hot on the heels of the release of the tenth volume in the Publications of the Dictionary of Old English (PDOE) series (Dabney Bankert’s Philology in Turbulent Times), we are happy to announce the publication of the eleventh volume, Claudio Cataldi’s The Bodley Glossaries: The Glossaries in Oxford, Bodleian Library, MS Bodley 730. In this book, Cataldi provides the first full edition of the glossaries in MS Bodley 730, copied ca. 1200, which contain entries in Old English as well as in Latin and Anglo-Norman. The English entries in Bodley 730 are interesting witnesses to the later reception and development of the Old English glossographical tradition.

The PDOE series is published by the Pontifical Institute of Mediaeval Studies. For more information on The Bodley Glossaries or to order a copy, please visit their site.
